Braida di Giacomo Bologna-Saturday, September 15th- 1-4pm
Montebruna Barbera d’Asti 2008, Moscato d’Asti
At a young age Giuseppe Bologna founded the Braida estate, cultivating a single vineyard of Barbera to make wine for himself and his friends. It was this vineyard that he passed on to Giacomo Bologna along with an unbounded love for this wine and the land where it was made. Giacomo produced a wine that catered to his own exacting standards. He believed that great wine must come from great soil and had been fortunate enough to inherit land that was ideal for grape growing. Giacomo Bologna was actually the first to realize that Barbera could age brilliantly in small oak barrels. In the 1980′s he put this discovery to use, creating three now-famous crus, Uccellone, Bricco della Bogotta, and Ai Suma. The extraction, clarity, and superb balance of these wines is simply unbelievable. Today, Giacomo’s wife Anna and their children continue the plans and dreams that he conceived long ago.
As always, Free tasting in the Free World
Trust Cellars Tasting in the Bar Tomorrow August 22nd 5-7pm
This is a correction of the earlier publication on my part. Steve Olson is a rep at Cavatappi and I had that name stuck in my head because I’m going pre-maturely senile…or is it dimentia? Join Steve Brooks(!)-not Olson- owner and winemaker of Trust Cellars, at Bar Ferdinand tomorrow. He will be pouring his ’11 Rosé of Cabernet Franc, ’11 Riesling, 2 of his Syrahs and a Cabernet Sauvignon. For those of you not familiar with Trust Cellars, Steve and his wines are some of the most chill products to roll out of that valley. Steve is a super laid back and down-to-earth individual, whose wines are a reflection of himself and his surroundings. Nothing showy here; no un-needed new wood; no fat dollops or gobs of gooey fruit: just good acid, alcohols in check, balance in place and savory character not usually associated with this part of the world. Get down here!
Free tasting in a Free World
Cahors producer, Chateau Fontaynes Tasting Tomorrow, August 19th 3-6pm
Please join us for an impromptu tasting of the wines of Chateau Fontaynes. Maarten Luyckx, owner and winemaker is stopping through this weekend and we are fortunate to be able to welcome him at Bar Ferdinand for a few hours. He will be pouring three wines: his Cahors, Gascogne Blanc and a Rosé. The wines are fresh and brilliant, vinified naturally, with little or no sulphur added, no filtration, and no chemicals or pesticides in the vineyard. Come by and welcome Maarten…his wines are great and… as always, the tasting is GRATIS…as in…free. See you here!

Sancerre Producer, Andre Neveu’s wines at Bar Ferdinand
- Les Grand Fricambaults Rouge
- Les Grand Fricambaults Rosé
- Les Grand Fricambaults Blanc
- Les Longues Fins Blanc
A bit of info on the Domaine:
“The Neveu family have been based in the heart of the Chavignol vineyards for many generations, and today carry on the tradition of the great Sancerrois vignerons. Valerie, André Neveu’s daughter, and her husband Thomas, now run the domaine that extends to about 12 hectares of AOC Sancerre. All the wines are hand harvested and the utmost care is taken in the vineyard. These are the consummate terroirists. The bottlings are all single vineyard, single soil type expressions of Sancerre. All the wines are given the same upbringing in stainless steel, save the Mont Damnes, so that the individual terrior of each site may shine through. Domaine Andre Neveu, above all else, prize balance, minerality, and clarity of fruit in their wines.”
Tempus Cellars at Bar Ferdinand Tonight
Tonight, 5 to 7pm, we will have Tempus Cellars owner and winemaker, Joe Forest with us! He will be pouring four of his award winning wines; the 2010 Grenache, 2011 Grenache Rose, 2011 Evergreen Vineyard Riesling, and 2009 Syrah. As always, tasting is free, with discounts offered on half and full case purchases. Joe and family are located in Walla Walla, producing elegantly styled, beautifully crafted wines. If you know our shop, you know that we lean heavily into the old world. If we’re carrying Joe’s wines it’s because his winemaking falls along these lines; reasonable oak usage, lower alcohol levels where possible; and wonderful accompaniments to food. See you tonight!
